To use emerge on the chrooted guest, this does not matter that you have
a non gentoo host ...
actually looks like the chroot is not explicit in the doc, it's in
"Bootstrap and build the system in the usual fashion."
Then you should emerge sync and emerge world _in the chroot_ this will
update the guest system maybe fix your problem, but i think that chances
are low ...

I have followed the howto from the wiki at :

which is really more complete and clear. I also needed to emerge devfsd
(on the guest )
