Network setup is a bit tricky indeed because both xen and uml use
bridges to make virtual machines appear transparently on the physical
network.  Its easy to get that wrong ...

xm connects to xend via localhost (i.e. loop device) though, so that
shouldn't cause trouble in theory.

Double-checking routing and interfaces is worth a try neverless.
