SuSE certainly intends that UML should work; they do have the skas3 patch
in the host kernel. This is SuSE v9.2. mode=tt had no effect.

The issue turned out to be incomplete installation. While tracking down an
unrelated issue I stumbled over their UML installer, "yast2-uml". If you
install that, and let it install the recommended packages on the host, you
get a live UML guest which would have finished the installation if I had
configured my firewall properly. They have it set up to run the regular
installer on the actual guest, so all their behind-the-scenes details are
taken care of.

Unfortunately this the first release that they've had UML and the
documentation is a bit sparse. I ended up grabbing obvious-looking
packages off the list, like the client kernel, but not some important ones.

Now I've snarfed a command line with working parameters including several
that were not mentioned in the howto, such as initrd=filename. Of course
the UML, regular kernel and installer parameters are all jumbled together.
Do you recognize "ncups=1"? That's ncups, not ncpus. Anyway, I have some
raw material for figuring out why my previous attempts ended so bizarrely.
Thanks for your help.
