I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure what you mean by host setup, but
as I mentioned I'm using Fedora Core 3 for the host and uml,
and FC3 comes with glibc 2.3.4.  I had the same problem with a
Fedora Core 2 host/uml and that was using glibc 2.3.3. 
However I had a Fedora Core 1 host/uml setup that didn't have
this problem and it used a 2.4 series kernel with glibc 2.3.2.
 Is this enough info?  I can give you access to my uml kernel
and rootfs if that would be of more help in tracking down this
problem.
