The answer to your question Tom is simple, open a support ticket! Enterprise 
customers have access to the SUPPORT project in JIRA. This is the mechanism to 
get your high priority issues addressed. The higher your SLA the higher your 
priority :D

If you are using the community user there is a chance the issue may never get 
addressed. Unless an enterprise customer requests it then we may not get around 
to fixing it. Community users would be encouraged to submit a fix to increase 
the chances of getting it into the product. 

Anywhoo... as for the issue at hand.
@Jennylyn I increased the scope of 
https://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MGNLUI-3855 to cover both issues at the 
same time since they look related around making the field required. It appears 
that setting simply isn't working on that field.
@Tom I closed your issue since it's in the wrong project. It's a UI bug not a 
core bug. In the architecture we separate the two. I pointed your ticket to the 
one mentioned above.
