Apparently this was the problem, a Firefox bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=373621)
The solution is to delete mimeTypes.rdf and restart Firefox Maybe Magnolia should sniff the mimeType before blindly trusting the browser.
