Sometimes what may seem "apparent" may be more a matter of inference. Have you considered the possibility that the issue you experienced may be less common than you had imagined?
I just downloaded and installed v8dp14 on my 64-bit Win 7 machine, and it runs okay.
If you include the Windows crash log with your report the team seems to be able to fix things like that pretty quickly.
