I'm not sure it applies to answer and ask, but I've had issues with opening stacks using the open menu item in the past. Then I unplugged my usb drive that is often in power save mode, so that it doesn't have to spin up before being able to respond and the trouble went away. Do you have an external usb drive? (Ihave a 3.5" and a 2.5. The 3.5 in its dock is much more of an issue than the 2.5. Inertia matters I guess.)
