I think I see what you're trying to do, and if I understand correctly, you can't do it using built-intransitions. You can restrict transitions WITHIN a specified rect or object, but not outside (in this case, the background).
What transition are you using -- one of the motion-based options like push or scroll? If yes, one solution could be to use the move command or something like AnimationEngine to physically move background groups left and right (or up and down). But since we're talking about the entire width/height of the card, that might be a lot of screen to update, which could bog down on an underpowered device.
