When I submitted the request to the bug DB I'd hoped for either a fix or
an explanation, whichever the engine team feels is appropriate.

Accordingly, the request has been updated to be for documentation
enhancement. While it's currently closed as "Not a bug" I've requested
that it be re-opened as a documentation enhancement so that it can
become possible for others to anticipate this behavior.
