I use windows 8 on one of my laptops and there were some quirks that came along with the new graphics layer but I think they are getting ironed out at a fast enough pace.
As for finding the control panel, one thing that became invaluable once i found it is right clicking on the windows logo on the task bar. This opens a context menu with fast access to the most important parts.
