Maybe I didn't quite understand the original problem, but from the tests I've done so far, setting the label of an option menu doesn't affect the menuHistory in any way, also it doesn't trigger a menuPick message like setting the menuHistory does. Tested on Mac OS X 10.8.5 with LC 5.5.5 through to LC 7.0 (dp1) - All behaved exactly the same.
