Something wrong with what you wrote Christer:
set width of button "yourButton" to the formattedWidth of button "yourButton" This will take the width required to show the name of the button and make the button just that wide. Note that if you have a label applied to the button, it will take precedence over the name. Is this what might have happened in your case?
