Hopefully you'll get over the difference in terms used in LiveCode compared to other languages. I think it would be the right tool to use for bible study applications.
As an aside, you should look at Unity 3D. It's not remotely right for the apps you're talking about, but it is good fun to play with, and one of its main languages is C#.
