I have seen something like this in my mobile resizing library and have not been able to put my finger on it. I think you're getting closer to nailing a recipe for this one.

I haven't 100% verified yet, but it appears that if the new string is longer than the previous string, then the formatted width is reported correctly but if the new string is shorter than the old string, it is reported incorrectly. This is with LC 5.5.0. Anyone else seeing this?
