It's the same thing that came up a week or so ago. Getting anything in the message box returns a boolean, which tells you if the command succeeded. If you want to get the value, you have to "put" it.

get the date -> true
put the date -> 11/28/11

Also, re-declaring them in the multiline message box has no adverse effect.

It feels like the multi-line is compiled like a script, but the single-line is sent directly to the engine. Just guessing.
