It could be not just that LC uses carriage return and line feed, but that some tools don't even break the results up into lines. You base64 encode things to make sure they can travel ok, or perhaps to hide what the text really says. For most cases you may not need to split the results into lines, so perhaps other implementations leave it up to you whether you do that or not.
