Hi Andre, Reminds me of a few other failed hardware/software ventures, which you were way too young, or not even born to remember...
There was Philips CD-I, which by all accounts was a superb platform but they killed it because they wanted over $10K for a developer license so-- no developers signed up. Followed by Trip Hawkins (founder of EA) 3DO multimedia/gaming platform for the rest of us. Way WAY too much hype and took forever to deliver. Pretty much stillborn when finally delivered... And of course who can forget the promise of Apple and IBM teaming up to form Kaleida (and Taligent) in the early 90's. Marc Canter's (the founder and CEO of Macromind) wife, Devorah, spent a lot of time recruiting companies for this all-in-one multimedia platform/software development suite, which some say included PIPPIN (Apple's then rumored set top). Most of the smart companies, including our own Human Code, decided to let others try first-- which turned out to be wise as none of these ever made it.
