Colin, resolution typically refers to the number of pixels on a screen, not the density. The Acer Iconis has a 1280 x 800 screen, vs the iPad's 1024 x 768. That's 1,024,000 pixels vs the 786,432 of the I pad, which is significant, and much more than 12%.
