I suspect it was a pun or a reference to eBay sniping. That's when bidders wait until the very last second of an auction and then swoop in with a higher price in order to get the item without allowing the bidding to go up any higher. There are third-party eBay apps that will snipe for you automatically in order to submit the highest price at the last nanosecond.
