I tried deleting the text in the field and that didn't stop the crashes. I had to delete the whole field. Even weirder, I went to a back-up that was nearly a year old and found the same problem. Deleting the field and then re-creating it fixed the error I have no back-up to look at to check but I remember that I had done something to the table field so that two of the columns which had numbers in them were right justified while the others were left justified. I don't remember how I did it.
