It's pretty commonplace for apps that are not handled by some form of
package manager, to not have any kind of icon available at all. I
think most Linux users (count me in) would be very happy to have a
nice PNG image to use and it's not at all hard to deal with, IMO.

Great, that's what I'll do then. It may be unconventional but hopefully users will think of it as thoughtful.
