I think calling it an adventure is an understatement! I would be
scared to death of trying to do anything like that. I think I'll just
report it as a bug and see what happens. Meantime, I plan to take a
look at the glx2 editor that has just become available under open
source and see if it might a better user interface in general than the
IDE.
