Hi Richard, There is no workaround. This simply doesn't work. Let's hope that the unicode overhaul in 4.5 changes this.
However, you can use AppleScript or VBScript and create a complete parallel file handling system. E.g. use AppleScript to read data from a file and then pass on the data to LiveCode.
