True, you can have several customized status messages, and you can
assign them to a specific state (online/busy etc). But, these messages
don't appear in the fast-user-switching-applet, so you can't select
them. If you set a status message for "available" in pidgin, and then
set status to "away" in fusa, then set the status back to "available"
with fusa, the default status for available is used(the one without a
message). It should default to the last used status message instead. OR
the customized status messages should appear in fusa, so we can choose
between them.

I am using pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 in Intrepid up-to-date.
fast-user-switch-applet 2.24.0-0ubuntu6.
