Apps *should* take care of this themselves. Can't you just open System
Settings>Brightness & Lock and set "Turn screen off when inactive" to
Never and in the Power Settings panel, set "Suspend when inactive" to
"Don't suspend"? I believe that's pretty similar to how other
operating systems handle this. Windows does offer power profiles but
the way it's implemented is a bit complex.
