Ironically the first incarnation of Unity displayed the files
differently than apps. With the file name and path on the right side of
the icon (ala what the gwibber lens currently does). You could even
click the parent dir name like a hyperlink to open it.
I've been trying to push for some more work on the renderers this cycle
('renderer' is the unity specific term relevant here. Each lens can
select a given renderer for each of their categories). Unfortunately we
haven't been able to free up developer time for this.
I don't know exactly what made us change this original layout, but I do
recall that it was intentional. Perhaps someone can fill me in on the
background...

same name in different paths. In the Dash lenses there seems to be no
way of identifying which one is which. Or perhaps it is so obvious
