Hi all Yesterday I started hunting for all kind of bugs in Precise and discovered that adding a program to the startup application list is nearly impossible for an average user. When clicking on 'add' > 'Browse...' the upcoming dialog shows the 'Recently Used' files folder. No average user would know how to add e.g. Firefox to the startup list when seeing the 'Recently Used' folder. Drag & drop from the Launcher to the startup application list or the 'Add Startup Program' dialog doesn't work too.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/944344 Importance = low 'Startup Applications' is the third menu entry in the power cog menu and should be therefore average user friendly. No average user would search in the browse dialog box under /usr/bin to add a program to the startup list because he simply don't knows that the program binaries can be found there. If the current state is planed to be the final startup application state and the importance is really low then I suggest to remove the startup application menu entry from the power cog (better not presenting a function then presenting a function that is not 'usable' for an average user in the power cog). Suggestion: Open a 'Select Application' dialog as in the new system settings > privacy menu is shown when clicking on the '+' button. Thibaut PS: Hope this is the right place to discuss this issue → it's a UX problem in my eyes.
