A blacklist strikes me as decidedly unmaintainable, unless something is happening at a deep level to tag packages from the start. What is stopping the "Apps available for download" feature from presenting apps only when it has some reasonable expectation they might be of interest to the end user? For example, rated above three stars, highly related to the current search (search string contains "database:" show LibreOffice Base), icon isn't tiny, search hasn't turned up many installed applications…
I think it has had two cycles, so is there actual research to say that the current "throw everything at the screen and hope it sticks" approach is being useful?
