Wouldn't it be better if all non-app entries in the Unity launcher (workspace switcher and show desktop) were fixed on top or bottom like the BFB and the trash?
The set of running apps is a variable thing, so it is expected to jump around. It is quite uncomfortable, though, to see permanent functions like workspace switching being moving targets.
