Here are the two related SourceForge bugs regarding libtheora: Impossible to record screencast with new libtheora http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2888673&group_id=172357&atid=861428 Stops updating when switching virtual terminals in Lucid http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2999144&group_id=172357&atid=861428 Here is the Fedora fix https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=525155 A workaround for people not comfortable with compiling from source is to revert back to the Karmic libtheora file: 1. Type this in a terminal - "sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" and Add the following lines: deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic universe deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic multiverse 2. Open Synaptic and reload the files. 3. Do a search for libtheora, highlight the package "libtheora-bin" and select Package -> Force Version -> Karmic. Do the same for package "libtheora0" and hit Apply.
