Did you make sure to set all channels to high volume levels in gnome-
alsamixer? (as I wrote before)
Did you make sure all the different speakers (including 'Front',
'Master', and 'PCM") are NOT muted and NOT set to low volume levels in
gnome-alsamixer?
Have you tried upgrading ALSA to the newest version?

After upgrading ALSA, please reboot and retest sound.
