Hmmm.

My /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf now looks like this...

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Option "ClickFinger3" "1"
EndSection

...but upon reboot I did get a tab closing upon single left click still.

Is it absolutely necessary to perform the "sudo synclient
ClickFinger3=1" action?
