TOROK - a snapshot of the upcoming Mesa 7.9 (7.9~git20100909-0ubuntu1) has just been added to Maverick. Can you boot the Maverick beta CD, then reload the package info, then update Mesa and xserver-xorg-video- ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon, then test again (without the nomodeset parameter)?
