Can you tell if there's a mode-switch transition when X starts? Although it looks like (although I can't be sure from these logs) X is using the same resolution as has been set by the kernel, there are two valid 1400x1050 modes with different refresh rates. It's entirely possible that X is setting a new mode, differing only in refresh rate.
If you can't tell, you could reboot, setting the “drm.debug=0x04” kernel command line parameter (add it just after “quiet splash”), and attach the output of dmesg here. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- no smooth transition to x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
