System: Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) and ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon] @Stephen Bathgate - post #23 Thanks Stephen, and apols for the belated reply.
It's cured now... by following this procedure, most of which is from post #30 above, for which I'm extremely grateful. Well done huizache! If you're reading this and you're a Linux Guru then please forgive me ungeekyness below - it's the best I can do. Anyway, I did this: Go get GoogleEarth from: http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html You now have a file: GoogleEarthLinux.bin Open a terminal and go to your download directory: cd your-download-directory Make executable: sudo chmod 777 GoogleEarthLinux.bin Install by running: ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin It'll install into ~/google-earth (btw there's an uninstall program in that directory). When I try to run this it opens the GoogleEarth page, and the 'Show tips at startup' window on top. Then it crashes out. However... You need to be quick enough to close the 'Show tips at startup' window before it crashes. Then Tools => Options => General => untick show tips at startup And it works! And on Ubuntu (Lucid, 10.4) there's a desktop icon. Delete it, and put one in from Applications => Internet => rightclick GoogleEarth and add launcher to desktop Job done! -- OpenGL graphic errors in google earth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
