Perfect, thanks for your patience. It would be useful to know if this still happens with latest upstream. To test this you can get the mesa packages from https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon and test both using: LIBGL_DRIVERS_DIR=/usr/lib/dri /usr/lib/xscreensaver/pipes (for gallium drivers) and LIBGL_DRIVERS_DIR=/usr/lib/dri-classic /usr/lib/xscreensaver/pipes (for classic drivers).
