That is the work around, but the hope is that we have fixed the underlying bug. I have to admit that I have tried the ppa package, but I am glad it seems to be working.
It sounds like the LTS package maintainers have two choices. Either add this patch into the current LTS release version of the package, or upgrade the package to the fixed upstream version.
