The above kernel has fixed this issue for me. My issue seemed to be slightly different, it was mostly very bright but depended on what was displayed on the screen. It seemed to be doing some sort of dynamic contrast - if what was being displayed was mostly white, the contrast would lower, if what was on the screen was darker it would go very bright. I have two monitors, both vga, one with a dvi-vga adaptor. It was only happening on the DVI-0 output, the VGA-0 output was fine.
