I've experienced the same slowness most posters have described on Karmic and now Lucid.
ATI 3650 HD Toshiba Satellite A300 This has been an ongoing issue for a LONG time, and I hope it can be resolved. I know Bryce had a "nobackfill" kludge up, but I could never find it in my available packages after adding his PPA. Lucid is feeling really tight, but it's these basic issues that still get Ubuntu laughed at by other OSs :-( Thanks in advance to any/all developers trying to sort this out....greatly appreciated!!
