Asa: I believe it was just a transient problem fixed in a synaptics update published just a few hours after the one you were using when you reported this, and you just happened to reboot and use the new package right after you installed gpointing-device-settings. If you can, can you please try a beta 2 or newer livecd out to see if this issue still occurs so we can look into it more and if so please reopen this bug? Thanks!
