OK, here we go: I hit ctrl-alt-F1 to switch to a virtual terminal and the heavy flickering immediately returned. With some difficulty I opened gterm, ran ps -aux and noticed:
ubuntu 16416 0.5 0.6 104924 13208 ? Ss 00:41 0:01 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon ... which I previously had killed. $ killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon ... and I'm back to a flicker-free desktop. So it looks like that's the problem. ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gm45] blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/543808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
