TM Hart, just to clarify, it is impossible for the settings on the harddrive install of Ubuntu to be effecting the LiveCD version of Ubuntu. From how I read your observations, the LiveCD session freezes whenever you set the visual effects to Normal. The same is also true from the installed version. Am I missing anything?
