This is what I did. From 9.10 I disabled all desktop effects and purged my fglrx driver. Reebooted and got the message about disabled properetary drivers. Then I ran update-manager -d to update to Ubuntu Lucid alpha 2 containing the new kernel 2.6.32. When done the update- manager rebooted and I was booted into the new Lucid. From here I enabled desktop effects and without any of the bugs (slow minimizing, maximizing resiezing etc) I had before. Ta-da!
