This is probably because xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.1-1ubuntu4 does not support userland modesetting (UMS). In other word, it doesn't work with the nomodeset option. I think this has been done because 2.10.0 which is planned for Lucid does not support UMS.
As such, we could close this bug, but I will leave it open for now in case somebody is monitoring what problems disabling UMS lead to. ** Summary changed: - Xorg freeze on startup with modeset on intel + Xorg freeze on startup with nomodeset on intel -- Xorg freeze on startup with nomodeset on intel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
