Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Intermittent problem - Mouse/keyboard unresponsive (Number lock/caps lock cannot be switched off/on) and No signal input check cable – message on monitor I am new to Ubuntu (been a windows power user for too many years!). Installed Ubuntu with dual boot of windows 7 RC in November 2009. Difficult to know what started causing it and not aware of changing any settings or updating system prior to it occuring, although always update via update manager when it appears. Frequency it occurs - varies, sometimes nothing for days then once a day. Does not happen more than once a day, but is annoying when it does occur (almost turned me back to windows for which I have never had it freeze on me!) At first thought it only happened when running torrents, but recently happened even when not running torrents and had k9copy open. Always have firefox open and Banshee media player. I now believe this is related to xorg and Intel GMA/driver? Could also be something to do with monitor powersave function (set to turn off monitor after 10 mins)? Attached messages logs for problem that occurred on 2 and 3.2.10 with items highlighted in red that I feel are related. Always seems to freeze after following messages in log? __mutex_lock_slowpath+0xc6/0x130 mutex_lock+0x20/0x40 i915_gem_retire_work_handler+0x2a/0x70 [i915] run_workqueue+0x6e/0x140 ? i915_gem_retire_work_handler+0x0/0x70 [i915] worker_thread+0x88/0xe0 ? autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x40 ? worker_thread+0x0/0xe0 kthread+0x7c/0x90 ? kthread+0x0/0x90 kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10 Note for 2.2.10 after log of Feb 2 20:59:02 (item marked in red) will see where I removed the NIC cable and moved lots of USB cables around to see if unfroze. It did not but at least from log can see that the log was working ok even if the keyboard, mouse and screen were unresponsive.
