The situation is still: If I start up in recovery (text) mode, I can use the script in comment #2 to start gdm and a couple of other daemons that I want. In this case, I can log in and run normally.
However, if I try to start normally, I get to the login screen (a bit farther that I was getting earlier, when I first filed this bug), and the system hangs while I am trying to log in - sometimes I can get to starting to enter my password, sometimes not quite so far. So the question is, why are these situations different? What has been started at the login time in one case but not the other, for example? -- Lucid frequently crashes while starting gdm on Averatec 3280 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508456 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
