Issue summary:
When a projector is plugged-in to the VGA port of my HP laptop, I can press
<function><F4> and the display mode toggles from my laptop screen to the
projector. This worked successfully with Ubuntu 8.10. However, with Ubuntu
9.10, the result is that the video output is distorted. I am working-around
this issue by going in to the NVIDIA X Server Settings applet and manually
setting up TwinView so that my laptop is configured for two displays: one is
the laptop screen and the other is my projector. I manually set the resolution
for the projector to be 1024x768.

Expected Functionality:
When I toggle the display mode from my laptop screen to the projector, Ubuntu
detects that the projector needs a lower resolution than that which runs
natively on the laptop and scales it down appropriately. The scaled-down video
output to the projector is clear and not distorted.

Settings Details:
Laptop native resolution: 1920x1200
Projector native resolution: 1024x768

Hardware Details:
HP Compaq 8510w laptop
NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card
Panasonic PT-LB80 projector

Software Details:
Ubuntu 9.10 (issue also reproducible in Ubuntu 9.04)
NVIDIA driver 185 (proprietary)

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu)
