No modesetting:
nexiuz freezes the system right after the initial intro
UrbanTerror freezes on 'start game'
etracer: Bee-like skin of Tux (yellow/black stripes)
billard-gl freezes system even before a window is created
Modesetting enabled:
nexuiz freezes the system when the first 3d frame is displayed
UrbanTerror freezes on 'start game'
Tested with default karmic drivers and libdri/mesa and xorg-edgers packages.
EXA/XAA acceleration methods.
Default Jaunty install was working properly with all mentioned 3d applications.
