@Damiano Can you try Karmic's livecd and try to boot without the splash? Get to the following page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
Follow the instructions in the paragraph titled "Changing the Boot Option Configuration Line" and remove the "splash" word and press Enter.
